Benefits to therapeutic laser

The Cat's Meow, in our efforts to continue having the best technology to treat our patients, recently acquired a new therapeutic laser. Therapeutic lasers have been shown to increase circulation, decrease swelling, reduce pain, and increase tissue repair. The application of laser therapy can be done via a technician appointment and normally takes about 5 to 10 minutes to complete. There is no sedation required and the experience is usually pleasant and comforting to the kitty (it feels like having a heating pad applied to a sore area).

Therapeutic lasers can be used for both acute and chronic conditions. Some of the criteria we used for assessing patients that may benefit from laser therapy include certain medications and conditions as well as age (as most cats over 12 years of age have arthritis on x-rays even without overt symptoms). Patients with conditions such as arthritis or chronic gastrointestinal issues have the potential for decreased inflammation.

Chronic conditions sometimes take anywhere from 3 to 4 visits before results are seen. Usually, clients begin noticing their kitty seems more active when moving or more comfortable when sleeping or being held. Treatment regimen are normally about 5 to 8 treatments over the course of a few weeks with additional treatments as needed moving forward (depending on how well the kitty responds and how long the effects last).
